Bin there?

What do you throw away in your office, apart from your hopes and dreams? That’s the question Envirowise will be raising on February 21 with its One Bin Day.

The cunning ruse is to have only one bin in the office to highlight just how much stuff goes into it - did you know that each office worker in the south west throws away 1,584 sheets (we’re presuming of A4) each month? Come on people, just how many times can you trace around your hand and draw in the fingernails?

So the rationale is fewer bins, less waste - I seem to remember another experiment - fewer jobs, less pay, greater efficiency. But maybe I’m being unfair, this is just one step in the right direction.

As Paul Gilbert, Envirowise regional manager for the south west, said: ‘We would also like to see local companies using One Bin Day as a first step. For example, targeting areas such as water usage can often reveal similar opportunities for cost savings, as well as help minimise a company’s environmental impact.’
