Tinder is the night

Seems like there’s a massive demand for wood-fired heating in the region. No sooner have Regen SW (with support from the RDA - that covers the sponsorship) start its bio-heat programme than it has been approached by more than 80 projects who need some help.

Their press release said: ‘The response suggests that the region could increase the amount of wood heating four fold in the next year, and cement its record as the leading English region for renewable heat.’ (Shame about the use of cement tho’.)

Their chief exec, Matthew Spencer said: ‘Wood heating has grown up. It’s now an attractive option for large buildings, and is often the cheapest form of renewable energy available. The huge response we have had suggests that the South West is about to take a leap forward in its use of green heat.

‘This boost for biomass will be good for the economy, create incentives for the active management of our native woodlands, and will reduce the region’s impact on climate change.’

Wonder what the house builders think of that? Stay tuned for more you good, good people.

Watch your language

Those nasty Nazis are at it again - putting up CCTV cameras all over Dawlish, well, that’s according to Dawlish anti-CCTV campaigner Keith Sharp.

Not one to crack a walnut with a sledgehammer (or Jackboot) Mr Sharp sent out a leaflet emblazoned with the swastika to households in the town.

‘Tyranny begins with the suppression of free speech,’ he told the Herald Express. Before claiming that Dawlish has no crime problem to solve with the introduction of these cameras. His leaftlet begins with ‘Have you been visually raped?’

The use of language and images is more offensive than challenging, but the encroachment (and cost) of CCTV - and ID cards - needs to be, err ‘tempered’. Do we need to remind Mr Sharp that it’s exploiting the fear of terrorism, crime, hoodies, the youth, that starts the CCTV Big Brother process in the first place? Freedom fighter, maybe. Campaigner for civil liberties, perhaps. But unless he goes about it another way, poor Mr Sharp will just seem like a nut which time, apathy or the Public Order Act, will crack.
